A popular bee tree, it is one of the most sought-after nectar-producing plants of late summer! Truly a valuable addition for the late-season feeding of our precious bees: this large shrub to small tree blooms in September-October with dense white flower plumes and is heavily visited by a wide variety of hungry insects during its flowering period. This species has only been cultivated since 1980 and originates from China. Without pruning, the shrub will eventually grow into a small tree of 5-6 m high. After the (delightfully fragrant!) bloom, decorative pinkish-red fruits form, and the autumn colour varies from yellow to purple. In winter, its attractive bark is more prominent. It is a sun-lover; a few hours of shade per day are acceptable. This species is fully hardy in our climate and highly recommended! Note: the root system is rather horizontal.
