Natal plum

  • Product number: 822740.1
  • Origin: South Africa
  • Latin: Natal Plum

A beautiful shrub, which is not entirely hardy in our climate but thrives very well in a pot and can tolerate light frost. Its glossy, small leaves make the plant popular with bonsai enthusiasts! The bright white, slender, jasmine-like flowers have 5 petals and smell wonderful at night. After flowering (which continues for a long time), small, pink-red fruits develop with deep red and juicy flesh and a delicious, strawberry-like taste. Older plants develop significant thorns, making the plant very popular as a protective hedge in subtropical areas. The plant originates from South Africa, as its name suggests, and grows there all the way to the coast, so sea wind is not a problem.

Names:
Latin: Carissa macrocarpa
