This species is believed to have originated from a cross between the mandarin orange and the Chinese kumquat. It is an ideal potted plant that easily bears fruit. After fragrant, white blossoms, round, sometimes slightly flattened, 5 cm fruits appear, dark orange with a thin, sweet peel. The pulp is juicy and pleasantly acidic, with few to no seeds.
