(1943) A giant and still very popular! This variety lives up to its name with large purple-red flowers on heavy stems measuring approx. 90 cm. The pleasantly scented flowers appear in late May.
After years of experience in the Netherlands, our grower has put together a TOP assortment of the most beautiful and successful peonies.
They grow in all soil types:
In clay, growth is trouble-free; do not over-fertilize and ensure good drainage.
In sandy soil, the plants remain somewhat smaller; sufficient fertilization keeps the plant in good condition.
In peat soil, growth is generally good, but the plants will need to be transplanted or replaced slightly earlier.
Place peonies in a sunny spot and plant them (immediately upon arrival) so shallowly that only a few cm of soil covers the crown; firm the soil first.
We supply bare roots; each plant has been growing for 4-5 years, so the chance of early flowering is high! Some varieties grow into their intended (double) form as they get older. Colours may vary slightly from year to year and depend on the preceding winter cold. Because we have to wait until the plants have died off naturally, the bare roots are available EARLIEST FROM OCTOBER.
