Beautiful tree from South Africa, which flowers beautifully as a container plant in our climate. Light frost is tolerated, but timely winter storage is safer. The large clusters of bright red flowers are followed by pods with edible seeds. Because the beans resemble broad beans (boerbonen in Afrikaans), you could call this plant the "Broad Bean Tree"... Undeservedly a relatively unknown sight, which germinates very easily from seed! Place the plants outdoors in summer, eventually in a large pot. They are also beautiful to shape into a bonsai.
