Potatoes 'Tiamo'

  • Product number: 405650.1
  • Origin: South America
  • Latin: Solanum tuberosum

Parents: Cunera x Coderas
A beautiful, modern potato with many uses. Despite its early harvest, it stores very well! The slightly oval tubers have a bright red skin with light yellow flesh. When eaten young, they are quite firm; with longer storage, they become more floury. Our taste panel praised its fine aroma. The tuber is highly resistant to Phytophthora, and you can expect a very large harvest. 'Tiamo' can also be cultivated in warmer countries around the Mediterranean. A customer emailed us: "Here is a photo (with pruning shears) of the harvest from 5 Tiamo potato plants. They are hard, firm-cooking potatoes that grow just below the surface. The taste is fantastic, as is the ease of peeling." A customer informed us that the Colorado beetle (despite infestations elsewhere) stayed away from this variety! SPECIAL VARIETIES LIKE THESE ARE DELIVERED IN A MIXED PLANTING SIZE; THERE MAY BE (VERY) LARGE TUBERS INCLUDED. PLANT THEM WHOLE OR CUT THEM INTO PIECES WITH SPROUTS.

EARLY VARIETY FOR GOURMETS.
An early variety mainly means that it grows quickly and can therefore be harvested early. The planting time is actually the same as for later varieties (April). However, to achieve an extra early harvest, these varieties are often planted earlier (mid-March with foil protection or even from January under glass). Early varieties are less susceptible to the dreaded potato blight (Phytophthora infestans). Although the epidemic occurs earlier and earlier: plant sparsely and fertilize with potassium. Do not plant them in too wet a spot, but in full sun. The average planting distance is 70x40 cm; we recommend 80x40 cm to prevent diseases.
