(1952) Parents: Eigenheimer x Libertas (breeder S. van der Struik)
After many years of absence, we are able to offer this very tasty variety again since 2022. Parel grows well on clay, but also very well on sandy soils, although prolonged drought is not ideal. The taste is strongly determined by its texture; this is a fully floury potato. Truly the taste experience that has been popular in our country for the past 200 years!
Although this old variety is susceptible to potato blight in the foliage, you still have plenty of time to remove the leaves if affected, as the tuber is not easily affected. Due to the early harvest, a good harvest is almost certainly guaranteed annually.
MID-EARLY VARIETY.
A mid-early variety means it can be harvested from August. Harvesting a few weeks earlier is possible by planting sooner. Planting time is from mid-April, when the soil is warm enough. Pre-sprouting in light or in a large pot can be done earlier. Do not place them in too wet a spot, but in full sun. Mid-early varieties can suffer from the dreaded potato blight (Phytophthora infestans). Some preventive measures include: spacing plants widely, fertilizing with patentkali, not spraying water over the plant, and possibly organic spraying with sulfur or silinal. The average planting distance is 70x40 cm; we recommend 80x40 cm to prevent diseases.
