(1979) Parents: Civa x Provita, breeder: F. Brands in Rolde.
This early variety yields an abundant harvest of floury to reasonably firm and tasty tubers. The skin and flesh are yellow to cream-yellow. Premiere is sometimes called the early Bintje due to its baking quality, although its eating quality is much better. Particularly suitable for clay soil. Not very susceptible to tuber blight and resistant to potato cyst nematodes.
EARLY VARIETY.
An early variety primarily means that it grows quickly and can therefore be harvested early. The planting time is roughly the same as for later varieties (April). However, to achieve an extra early harvest, these varieties are often planted earlier (mid-March with foil protection or even from January under glass). Early varieties are less susceptible to the dreaded potato blight (Phytophthora infestans). Although the epidemic is occurring earlier and earlier: plant sparsely and fertilize with potash. The average planting distance is 70x40 cm; we recommend maintaining 80x40 cm to prevent diseases.
