ECO-CULTIVATED. The Jersey type, widely grown in France, with a distinctly slender, elongated shape. The skin is light copper-colored and the inside pink-streaked. The flavor suits the discerning French cuisine…! The shelf life is very good (8-12 months), we supply certified, virus- and nematode-free planting material. The name Jersey refers to the alleged origin of the semi-long reddish-brown shallot. However, this is not correct, as the official ancestors of the shallot come from the Middle East, it was subsequently further cultivated with this material in places such as Normandy and there the semi-long shape was selected.
Shallots belong to the onion family and, like garlic, grow into a cluster of “cloves”. The white inside is sometimes red and/or purple-streaked. They have a strong, rich flavor. Shallots cause fewer intestinal and flatulence problems than onions and garlic. Many recipes and interesting facts on www.shallot.com
