AVAILABLE FROM NOVEMBER AS A TUBER AND FROM MAY AS A PLANT.
‘Radiosa’ has pink-veined flesh and lilac skin. The plants form beautiful, deeply lobed foliage. The attractive, uniform tubers grow at the base of the plant; this variety also produces a good crop outdoors!
Originally, this well-known tuber has been cultivated in South America for more than 5,000 years, but this important source of carbohydrates has now spread throughout the (tropical) world. In addition to the (cooked) tuber, the leaves are also very popular as spinach! In Northern Europe, cultivation is becoming increasingly successful in summer: plant them on “ridges,” which are covered with black plastic or Bio Fibre Mulch to retain heat. The “starter plants” you purchase can be propagated by cuttings during growth, quickly creating a bed full of plants. If purchased later, place the plant(s) in a large pot(s) and propagate by cuttings for the following year. The plant can be kept indoors in a bright, not too cold space. We supply selections that have been grown in our area for several years.
