Ton Vreeken ❞The enthusiastic sowers and growers have already paid us a visit, but for many of you, March marks the starting signal for a hopeful gardening year!

Packed houseFor years we've been outgrowing our premises on the Voorstraat, but alas... attachment is a strange phenomenon. At the moment, my employees are racking their brains to pack our warehouse spaces as efficiently as possible!
Almost all summer-flowering bulbs have arrived, all seed potatoes are packed in small bags, and some varieties are already sold out! This year, 125 experimental potato varieties will be grown by us in Portugal.
Hopefully, we'll have more luck than in 2016, when the entire harvest was lost due to a flooded polder, and in 2015 when an Italian farmer received an unwelcome visit from a herd of wild boars. Third time's the charm, I'm persevering, but many valuable varieties have been lost.

Pepper funThere are more and more enthusiasts growing chillies. What a variety and what an amazement with the extremely hot varieties. Do be careful, because those super hot guys should not get on a wound or in your eyes! I have just finished entering all the new chilli varieties and we are naturally proud that we can now offer over 200 varieties. This puts us in the top 10 of suppliers in the world!
Chillies, bell peppers and aubergines can be sown early, now is high time. Use a heated seed tray for this, which gives much better results than in a room where it cools down at night. Our assortment of seed propagators is of course large and completely replenished, by the way, you can also place the unheated propagators on a heating mat, we sell various sizes. Now for the ideal seed compost: cocopeat mixed with a litre of silver sand and you can get started! Don't feel like or have time to sow but still want to enjoy special varieties? In May we will receive a large collection of chilli plants, which you can order now (or later).

Tomato farmingI'm not quite finished with the new tomato varieties yet, but hey... 270 varieties is already a nice collection to choose from! Just a little more effort, we hope to reach 400 varieties this year, something for everyone!
A fun, growing group is that of the blue tomatoes, which contain healthy anthocyanins, take a look.
You sow tomatoes in March-May, so you don't need to stress yet. Don't feel like or have time to sow, but still want to enjoy special varieties? In May, we will have a large collection of tomato plants, which you can order now (or later).

Parsnips from the Organic FarmerOne of our growers harvests the tastiest parsnips in the Netherlands every year! We are not a greengrocer, but because we virtually reintroduced this forgotten vegetable to the Low Countries, I have a special feeling for it.
Therefore, we offer a LIMITED number of customers a delicious portion of freshly harvested, organic parsnips at the sharp price of € 5.00
An expression that gives me a warm feeling, because one of my German garden friends uses it as a title for her annual list of collected seeds and tubers, which she grows for herself and me. A source of many interesting novelties! Now it introduces a short summary of a few articles that I would like to draw your extra attention to.

Wild garlicThis week we received our annual shipment of beautiful wild garlic plants. Organically grown (like all our plants), this is a tasty and easy-to-grow plant. Plant them in a shady spot and regularly snip some leaves to finely chop over your dishes!
✽
Jerusalem Artichokes and SunchokesStock is running low, you can plant them right away, and they'll thrive in any sunny spot in your garden. We sell highly productive, beautiful varieties and are pioneers in the Netherlands in this regard. For 2017, several trials of new varieties are already taking root.

Grow lightsYou know that feeling? You've sown seeds, everything germinates, but grows too fast and the seedlings are weak or fall over. Cause: lack of light! In our previous newsletter, we introduced our fantastic LED series, with which you can grow healthy seedlings even in a dark corner. Every seed enthusiast deserves such a lamp, put it on your wish list.
My wife Marry has returned from Lesbos full of impressions. Volunteering with the Stichting Bootvluchtelingen (Boat Refugees Foundation) during the harshest winter weeks, which even made the Dutch news. The refugee problem is complicated because there is so much fear and fundamentalism in the world... Marry didn't do what many people do: just give an opinion, but simply offered help: respect!
On weekends, we are regularly inspired by music and theater. Our beautiful Kunstmin theater (that name alone...) is often the source of this joy. Wende Snijders' try-out two weeks ago was one of those highlights. Her concert "Mens" (Human) I find impressive, pure, and moving, well worth it if you enjoy an original evening of music!
And then the elections... Have you made up your mind yet? What considerations are driving you? I have made up my mind to the extent that I will not be voting strategically. So it will simply be a choice based on policy and principles again. Just waiting for the debates, then I'll make the "best" choice.
Thank you for your interest!
