Ton Vreeken ❞While the passionate gardener (like you) is twiddling his thumbs on the couch, the seed man descends into his seed caverns...
I’m exaggerating, you get that, right? Of course, each of you has many other enjoyable activities besides your gardening hobby, but the part about the seed caves is pretty accurate. A tremendous amount of work needs to be done here in a short amount of time to be ready again to fulfill your gardening wishes. My team and I are really looking forward to it again; everything is running smoothly so far...

Seed potatoes and other tubersEvery year it's a struggle to get all the growers to deliver on time. In February, about 7 more pallets of potatoes will arrive, but... we have the assortment complete, so you can start ordering. However, not all of them are ready for in-store pickup yet!
Take your time to look at our beautiful 166 varieties, including 50 novelties (old historical and new varieties) that we have all tasted first.
Jerusalem artichokes and sunroots have been available for several months and can be planted all winter long (as long as there is no frost in the ground). The available assortment can be found here. In addition, we have many lesser-known, small tubers, such as Mahua, Ulluco, Oca, Hopniss, Inca Arrowroot, Tuberous Pea, Wild Potato, Crosne, Madeira Vine, Yacón, and Yam. You experience other cultures by cultivating these special tubers, and I do my best every year to buy up many harvests.

Garlic, Spring Onions and ShallotsThey can now go into the ground, you can also grow them in containers or pots, garlic is frost-resistant. These 3 varieties can be stored for a long time after harvesting! These are those 3 varieties.
The onion sets and shallots we are currently offering do not like it too cold, so wait with planting, otherwise they will bloom prematurely. Of interest are the famous and beloved French onion sets 'Rosé de Roscoff' (link to 307070) and the extra spicy shallots 'Ardente'.

Seeds, seeds, seedsOur main focus and most important activity, of course, is bringing the seed collection up to par. Both the packaging of the new harvest and the germination testing are in full swing. Did you know that difficult-to-germinate seeds, in addition to tricks involving temperature changes, sometimes also respond positively to a treatment with gibberellic acid or saltpeter? If something is difficult to germinate for us, we gladly resort to these aids!

Workers busy and one worker askedOur partially covered garden is well-stocked with (special) fruit. My garden team is busy with sales, as many of these plants are hardy and can therefore be planted right away. Another team is packaging potatoes, which will take about 2 more weeks.
By the way...: we need a new full-timer for our warehouses, Mitchell is leaving after this season, so you can apply! You need to be very helpful, as almost all teams will be pulling you in different directions, and in the meantime, you'll be inventively and clearly organizing all small and large spaces with incoming goods, which you'll constantly need to replenish yourself. So, get ready to roll up your sleeves and do some serious hauling from time to time...!
This year, we again have a smooth, fast, and (almost) flawless evening team working, who, while enjoying some nice music, toil through the daily orders between 7 PM and midnight.

Are you thinking of the birds?During these months, resident birds need some extra food. You can also hang a nesting box to serve as protection and a home. This year, our bird food range has been expanded with a delightful collection of handmade “Bird Cakes,” perfect for gifting to friends or directly to your feathered friends. The entire assortment of “bird delights” can be found here.
Also, take a look at our beautiful bird pots, insect pots, and forcing pots; this year, we have added extra-large rhubarb forcers to the collection.
Every week, our granddaughters come to stay with us for a day. My wife Marry is mainly busy with feeding, changing diapers, putting them to bed or rocking them to sleep, and taking them for walks outside. Occasionally, I'm called upon to help alleviate a busy moment, which I do promptly and without hesitation... What a joy it is to experience them so intimately from such a young age!
We are concerned about a friend and a male friend, both of whom appear to be seriously ill. Fortunately, there are still plenty of positive life prospects, but saying goodbye to a healthy existence and suddenly becoming a patient is very impactful!
Dordrecht commemorates the National Synod of 1618-1619. There are many activities to experience in Dordrecht; just take a look at www.nationalesynode.nl. I applaud the commemoration of this National Synod because, in the elaboration of this commemoration, it appears that people are now honestly evaluating how standing for a supposed truth so often misses the essence of living together (and the essence of Christianity): namely, Love.
Thus, this synod (like many synods) mainly brought diversity without mutual acceptance. By acknowledging this together, old wounds have been healed.
I wish you a good continuation of this winter and hope to inspire you many more times.
